South African practice Attik Design has revealed its design of Curiocity, Cape Town’s first hostel-hotel hybrid. The sophisticated, modernist outpost stretches three stories above the city’s Green Point neighborhood as a contemporary reinterpretation of the historic Cape Dutch architecture.
“The design of the property was inspired by the city itself. The real charm of Cape Town lies in its diverse, multifaceted soul. There is magic around every corner and this is what we wanted the interior to express,” says Brigid White, design director at the firm. “We drew inspiration from the city’s heritage Bo Kaap architecture and played with color, texture, and pattern to create a color blocking theme.”
The hotel’s interiors feature a seaside flair channeled through locally inspired patterns and colors, crafted by several local designers. Each accommodation is layered with mirrored with tones that complement the traditional South African design scheme through a contemporary lens, including the headboards, contrasting doors, and windows. In addition, the hybrid concept also comprises three main social areas: the restaurant, pool, and an indoor-outdoor lounge.
