Marriott International has announced plans to launch the world’s tallest modular hotel in New York. Designed by locally based Danny Forster & Architects, the AC Hotel New York NoMad will rise 360 feet above the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan.
Slated for a late 2020 opening, the 26-story hotel will be home to 168 prefabricated accommodations outfitted with finished, painted walls. The forthcoming hotel will be crowned with a modular rooftop and modular rooftop bar to maximize its elevated views.
“This is the moment where modular construction takes centerstage,” Forster says. “This hotel takes every advantage of offsite manufacturing, as you might expect. But it does so in a way that defies expectation. We wanted to demonstrate that modular building can do more than just harness the efficiencies of the factory. It can produce a graceful and iconic tower. And yes, it can do so at the rate of an entire floor a day.”
