The latest Asia Pacific Construction Pipeline Trend Report from Lodging Econometrics (LE), which excludes China, indicates that the overall pipeline has seen a 1 percent uptick in growth year-over-year (YOY). The report shows a pipeline of 1,561 projects and 314,716 guestrooms in development.
Excluding China, the top three countries in the Asia Pacific Construction Pipeline includes Indonesia, with 397 projects and 65,242 guestrooms; India, with 227 projects and 35,633 guestrooms; and South Korea with 174 projects and 36,410 guestrooms. Seoul leads the lineup of Asia Pacific cities with the most robust pipelines, boasting 148 projects and 27,084 guestrooms. Jakarta (112 projects and 20,300 rooms); Tokyo (47 projects and 11,908 rooms); and Kuala Lumpur (45 projects and 10,924 rooms)Â make up the remainder of the top four.
Marriott International serves as the top hotel company in the region, with 230 projects and 51,852 guestrooms in development. InterContinental Hotels Group with 125 projects and 29,135 guestrooms and Hilton Worldwide with 69 projects and 14,669 guestrooms also lead the development pipeline.
The region has 834 projects and 172,518 guestrooms under construction, which reflects a 2 percent decrease of projects YOY. In addition, 308 projects and 66,676 guestrooms—an 11 percent increase—are scheduled to begin construction in the Asia Pacific region in the next 12 months with 419 projects and 75,522 guestrooms in the early planning stages.
