The latest China Construction Pipeline report from Lodging Econometrics (LE) indicates a 7 percent increase in total pipeline year-over-year (YOY) with 2,410 projects and 525,225 guestrooms.
The number of projects and guestrooms under construction (1,724 and 356,816) also show a 4 percent YOY spike. Projects scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months are up 15 percent YOY, with 324 projects and 74,225 guestrooms. Projects in early planning are up 2 percent, showing 362 projects and 94,184 guestrooms.
Hilton Worldwide leads China’s construction pipeline with 292 projects and 71,895 guestrooms. Marriott International and InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) follow with 253 projects and 72,062 guestrooms, and 206 projects and 56,354 guestrooms, respectively.
The largest brand in the pipeline for each of these companies include: Hilton’s Hampton Inn & Suites with 113 projects and 17,130 guestrooms; Marriott’s full-service hotel with 51 projects and 16,227 guestrooms; and IHG’s Holiday Inn Express with 62 projects and 13,929 guestrooms.
Shanghai operates the largest pipeline out of all Chinese cities with 120 projects and 23,941 guestrooms. Guangzhou holds 113 projects and 21,890 guestrooms; Chengdu has 93 projects and 20,865 guestrooms; Suzhou has 87 projects and 17,048 guestrooms; and Beijing holds 82 projects and 13,919 guestrooms.
