According to the latest European Construction Pipeline report from Lodging Econometrics (LE), the continent is seeing a 13 percent increase in hotel development year-over-year (YOY) to 1,062 projects and 172,063 guestrooms.
There are 527 projects and 91,195 guestrooms under construction—a 30 percent YOY increase. Projects scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months rose 28 percent YOY to 291 projects and 44,757 guestrooms. Projects in early planning fell 20 percent YOY to 244 projects and 36,111 guestrooms.
Hilton Worldwide has the most properties in the continent’s pipeline with 164 projects and 16,182 guestrooms. Marriott International has 151 projects and 26,631 guestrooms, while InterContinental Hotels Group shows 101 projects and 10,268 guestrooms in the works. Hilton’s Hampton Inn has 68 projects and 10,268 guestrooms in the pipeline. Marriott’s Moxy brand follows with 45 projects and 8,677 guestrooms, and Holiday Inn Express shows 47 projects and 7,634 guestrooms.
Cities in Europe with the largest pipelines include London (89 projects and 16,339 guestrooms), Moscow (41 projects and 8,848 guestrooms), and Istanbul (35 projects and 6,284 guestrooms).
