PPG Paints has named the deep blue hue of Chinese Porcelain as the 2020 Color of the Year. The shade conveys a sense of tranquility that promotes escape from today’s fast-paced world. Subtle but strong, Chinese Porcelain marks a departure from more neutral shades.
“The faster technology moves and the more convenience it offers, the more we seek activities, experiences, and lifestyles that impart slowness and realness into our lives,” says Dee Schlotter, senior color manager for PPG. “The need for simplicity and escapism from technology is, in part, the reason that consumers are craving blues like Chinese Porcelain that bring us closer to natural elements such as the sea and sky, creating serenity in any space.”
Recent data released by Paintzen, a PPG-owned technology platform for customers to explore color and painting services, indicates that blue is the most explored color family by its users. Not only was blue navigated nearly 35 percent more than neutral tones, but Chinese Blue in particular became the most engaged color on Paintzen over the past six months.
