Lodging Econometrics’ (LE) latest Global Construction Pipeline Trend Report, which aggregates construction pipelines for each nation and market in the world, stands at 12,290 projects and 2 million guestrooms. The numbers reflect a year-over-year (YOY) increase of 8 percent.
There are a 5,691 projects and 1,048,457 guestrooms under construction, a 9 percent increase YOY. Projects scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months show a YOY leap of 14 percent with 3,879 projects and 557,958 guestrooms. Projects in early planning stages reflect an increase of less than 1 percent YOY with 2,620 projects and 422,816 guestrooms.
Marriott International stands as the leading franchise company in the Global Construction Pipeline with 2,239 projects and 377,820 guestrooms. Rounding out the top four, respectively, are Hilton Worldwide (1,996 projects and 299,676 guestrooms), InterContinental Hotels Group (1,347 projects and 203,438 guestrooms); and Choice Hotels (536 projects and 44,262 guestrooms).
The leading brands for each company are Marriott’s Fairfield Inn with 331 projects and 35,232 guestrooms; Hilton’s Hampton Inn & Suites brand with 544 projects and 66,381 guestrooms; IHG’s Holiday Inn Express line with 605 projects and 72,148 guestrooms; and Choice’s Comfort Inn Suites with 122 projects and 10,270 guestrooms.
