Four distinguished industry professionals will be inducted into Hospitality Design’s Platinum Circle hall of fame Tuesday, November 13th at a gala celebration at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York. The honor is bestowed on those who have dedicated their careers to contributing to enhancing the design, architecture, ownership/management, purchasing, and other disciplines in the hospitality industry.
The 2018 honorees are:
Nick Jones opened the first Soho House in 1995. Since then, he has expanded his empire to include 20 Houses popping everywhere from Brooklyn to Spain and Chicago to Istanbul. The private members-only club is ushering in a new era of hospitality with hip retreats for the elite that span the globe.
As vice president of design and procurement for Host Hotels & Resorts, Helen Jorgensen has helped to reimagine the independent luxury segment with the Logan in Philadelphia, Axiom in San Francisco, and the Camby in Phoenix. As the largest lodging real estate investment trust (REIT) and one of the largest owners of luxury and upper-upscale hotels, the company holds a portfolio of hotels from brands including Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, and so many more.
Hospitality giant Bill Marriott needs no introduction. He’s headed up the largest hotel company for the past 40-plus years, developing more than 6,700 properties across 130 countries and territories with revenues of more than $22 billion in 2017. Founded by his parents J. Willard and Alice Marriott and guided by family leadership for more than 90 years, the company is headquartered outside of Washington, DC in Bethesda, Maryland. Bill Marriott’s daughter (Debbie Marriott Harrison, global officer of culture and business councils) and son-in-law (Ron Harrison, global officer of architecture and construction) will accept the Platinum Circle award on his behalf.
Will Meyer and Gray Davis, founders of the prolific New York-based Meyer Davis, specialize in residential, hospitality, retail, and workplace. Founded in 1999, the firm has established itself at the forefront of high-end, sophisticated design, evident in their projects that include the 1 Hotel South Beach, the Assemblage, Four Seasons Houston, and Proxi in Chicago.
Chicago-based architecture and design firm the Gettys Group will also be recognized for its 30 years of expertise as an industry leader. Signing its name to more than 1,000 projects across the globe, the firm’s collaborative approach and precise vision has made it a world-class name in hospitality.
