The Sheraton Stamford Hotel in Stamford, Connecticut has completed a $200,000 project, in which it upgraded its lighting to LED throughout the hotel.
Over the life of the fixtures the hotel will have saved an estimated 7,412,770 kWh, according to a study from the Connecticut Energy Efficient Fund. This is equivalent to 3,755,988 pounds of coal not burned, 308,755 gallons of oil not burned, or electricity supplied to 882 homes one year.
By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental pollutants, this one project will also help reduce air pollution and improve air quality in Connecticut and the Northeast region by avoiding 8,037,815 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions, 2,242 pounds of nitrogen oxides emissions, and 4,563 pounds of sulfur oxides emissions.
The Sheraton Stamford is striving to reach Starwood’s company-wide goal of achieving a 30 percent reduction in energy consumption and 20 percent reduction in water consumption by the year 2020.
The hotel also partners with Clean the World to recycle soap and bathroom amenities. Through the program, each year thousands of pounds of discarded soap and gently used bottled amenities are diverted from the landfill and sanitized to be distributed to children and families around the world who otherwise would not have access to the hygiene materials.
