Both the Banyan Tree Phuket and Angsana Laguna Phuket, flagship properties of Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts, received Silver certification from sustainable travel and tourism organization EarthCheck last month after having achieved bronze certification status last year.
EarthCheck Silver certification requires businesses to have a sustainable policy and environmental action plan in place to measure key performance areas.
“By taking a scientific approach to measuring the effectiveness of their sustainability practices, Banyan Tree Phuket and Angsana Laguna Phuket were able to identify where they were out-performing others and where room for improvement remained,” says Stewart Moore, CEO of EarthCheck.
Both located on Phuket, Thailand’s Bangtao beach, the resorts joined EarthCheck in 2012. As part of their sustainability campaign, the resorts have taken up green practices, such as guestroom and office energy conservation, recycling, maintaining an organic farm, regularly planting a minimum of 2,000 trees per resort, and beach cleaning activities.
