Hakkasan Group will launch the first U.S. outpost of its dim sum teahouse concept Yauatcha in Honolulu. Debuting in February 2017, the venue will be located within the city’s International Market Place complex. The 276-seat, indoor-outdoor eatery will also be home to a patisserie, which will feature the brand’s signature slender blue aquarium and white marble.
Parisian firm GBRH, which created a contemporary Asian design in two previous Yauatcha locations, will craft the forthcoming restaurant with a comfortable yet elegant atmosphere. Each color of the five feng shui elements—blue, yellow, red, black, and white—will be represented throughout the interiors alongside curated furniture and decorative lighting. Brand trademarks such as smooth blue glass will be featured prominently on doors, partitions, and shelves, while traditional teahouse elements like brick walls will add texture to intricately carved wooden walls housing light fixtures.
Guests will arrive via the retail area and patisserie, and enter the main dining room, outfitted with yellow chairs and leading to the main bar and dining lounge—complete with a dim sum counter surrounded by tall Chinese red chairs—and on to an outdoor terrace. Quatrefoils appear as a design motif in door handles and the backs of chairs, while white ceramic teardrop lights will descend from the dark ceiling to gently illuminate the space with pinpoints of light.
