W Hotels Worldwide has announced the expected opening of the W Melbourne in 2020. The property will be located in the heart of the city as part of the $1 billion mixed-use Collins Arch development, which comprises two towers linked by a residential bridge that houses office, retail, and commercial space. This is the brand’s second Australian outpost in the pipeline along with the forthcoming W Brisbane, scheduled to open in 2018.
New York firms SHoP Architects and Woods Bagot will collaborate on the design with locally based practice Hachem.
The 294-room hotel will include 40 suites as well the brand’s signature Extreme Wow Suite. A bar and restaurant, FIT workout facility, WET indoor heated swimming pool, and an AWAY spa will also be featured in addition to more than 13,000 square feet of modern conference, ballroom, and meeting spaces.
The W Melbourne will join the brand’s portfolio of 50 hotels around the globe, including the recently opened W Las Vegas, W Goa, and W Punta de Mita, as well as the soon-to-open W Panama, W Shanghai, and W Tel Aviv. W Hotels is on track to reach 75 hotels by 2020.
