The Tilden Hotel has arrived in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood. Brooklyn-based firm Studio Tack revamped the hotel’s original building, breathing new life into the space with organic textures and colors as well as clean lines and natural light.
A freshly painted two-toned façade of both off-white and a black tile base and a 47-light marquee greet guests upon arrival. The lobby is clad with solid cherry wood walls, custom furniture, and terrazzo floors made from a combination of stone and recycled glass. Archways channel the revival architecture of the Spanish Missions of Northern California, while a custom chandelier crafted from four steels and acrylic pendants hangs above the center bay. Scheduled to open later this year, the new bar and restaurant, the Douglas Room, is situated adjacent to the lobby features custom millwork and furniture to emphasize the simplicity of American craftsmanship.
The 118 guestrooms have all been upgraded to convey simplicity and serenity with streamlined colors and materials, gray carpets, white bedding, and white walls with a high-gloss black trim. The 2,100-sqaure-foot indoor-outdoor penthouse offers panoramic terrace views.
The Tilden is home to 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space including the Hummingbird Garden. The hotel also features a dedicated art program that sponsors local artists, including Jenny Kiker whose work is showcased in guestrooms as well as in the lobby. A rotating array of House Art will be featured as well.
