Chicago-based the Gettys Group has completed the interiors for Playa Largo Resort & Spa, a 14.5-acre resort in Key Largo that is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection.
Inspired by the tropical setting’s natural beauty and ecosystem, the 144-room property evokes a breezy yet upscale aesthetic thanks to natural materials like coral rock, capiz shells, and local gumbo limbo trees. “Several details were made specifically for the Playa Largo and showcase the abundance of natural materials meant to bring the outdoors in,” says principal Meg Prendergast.
A soothing, indoor beach atmosphere permeates the interiors with a palette of tropical blue tones, neutral driftwood, and glistening iridescent shades that reflect ocean views through the lobby’s 15-foot windows. Terrazzo floors inlaid with petrified wood slices span the lobby, which is anchored by a central compass rose fountain, while a capiz shell chandelier and oyster shell artwork accentuate the aquatic motif.
The property features 30,000 square feet of outdoor event space, including a picturesque formal lawn, event courtyards, a cabana-clad waterfront pool, outdoor terraces, a private marina, and a 6,000-square-foot ballroom outfitted with chandeliers resembling shimmering schools of fish. The property also offers an array of dining venues and a spa and fitness center.
