The Freepoint Hotel is slated to open in Cambridge, Massachusetts this April. New York-based dash design has transformed the former Best Western Plus Hotel Tria into a sophisticated urban oasis with a touch of bohemian originality.
A 750-square-foot abstract mural in the arrival area evokes the creative spirit of the Freepoint brand. Warm oak and walnut mingle with blackened steel and brass, accented with splashes of eclectic colors. Wooden parquet flooring nods to Old World Cambridge juxtaposed with artwork honoring some of the region’s most significant cultural contributions. Inspired by the Polaroid camera—a Cambridge invention—a tech-centric 3D art installation displays rotating abstract visuals throughout the day.
The chic lobby boasts ample seating and local artwork curated by the Cambridge Arts Council. An artistic screen crafted from oars references the famed Head of the Charles River rowing tradition, while sawtooth skylights canvas the lobby and reinforce the outdoor atmosphere inside. A chef-driven bar, lounge, and restaurant are housed in the lobby, connected to a secret garden encased in glass. Accessible through a sliding glass wall, the open-air atrium houses firepits, lush greenery, and birch trees ascending through the al fresco roof. A 24-hour fitness center and pantry are onsite as well.
The 121 guestrooms and suites feature a cool color scheme with warm grays and soft splashes of color. In addition to locally sourced artwork, accommodations include a chic, industrial aesthetic with exposed brick walls, sectional sofas, and oversized desks. Bathrooms feature hex faux wood floor tiles, stacked elongated subway wall tiles, and walk-in rain showers or tubs.
