Following a design competition, Beach Bay Land Limited (BBLL) has selected Mexico City-based TEN Arquitectos with designing a $250 million mixed-use resort on Grand Cayman.
“TEN Arquitectos [is] a firm who so clearly understood our vision for creating a Caribbean icon that is sensitive to the existing tropical environment, integrates the architecture as art and in harmony with nature, while offering the highest standard of luxury accommodation,” says John Layton, principal and managing director of BBLL.
Designed to both contrast and integrate with the environment, the property is scheduled to open in 2018 at the forthcoming St James Point—a 16-acre resort community located on a 1,000-foot private beach.
“Providing more integrated environments for living and travel, without their losing connection to nature or sense of place, is key to the success of a project like this,” says Enrique Norten, a principal at TEN Arquitectos, which will collaborate with the project’s locally based architect of record Andrew Gibb, Chartered Architect. “We have a unique concept here that will fit harmoniously within the landscape.”
The site will feature a 200-key hotel with more than 90 residential units, several restaurants, retail and spa concepts, and water sport activities.
TEN Arquitectos’ selection was announced at Art Basel Miami Beach, where Hospitality Design magazine recently held its HD Conversations event—an informal series of interactive discussions also held annually at HD Expo.
