Micro-hotel concept Pod Hotels has set its sights on Brooklyn, New York announcing the spring 2017 launch of an outpost in the Williamsburg neighborhood. In development under BD Hotels and CB Developers, Pod Brooklyn will house 249 modular guestrooms constructed in Poland and shipped to the U.S. An array of courtyards, rooftops, and event spaces will be woven into the property, which is designed by locally based Garrison Architects in collaboration with Pod Hotel design director Vanessa Guilford.
A glass ceilinged open-air lobby will offer guests the traditional front desk experience as well as self-check-in with iPads. The second-floor mezzanine, which will host a flexible workspace and lounge area with coffee and light fare, is accessed via a wraparound staircase.
The approximately 100-square-foot guestrooms will include queen and bunk bed configurations, as well as built-in storage. Oversized windows will overlook ample green and public spaces, reminiscent of a college campus environment, though each room will be outfitted with blackout and noise-blocking shades.
The hotel will also include a Salvation Taco venue in its more than 10,000 square feet of public space—chef April Bloomfield and restaurateur Ken Friedman’s first venture outside of Manhattan. In addition to private and public rooftops, guests can enjoy three courtyards, linked via glass walkways and equipped with living walls that run the length of the property. An estimated 16,000 square feet of retail space is set to open on the ground floor as well, along with a sidewalk café.
