This month, Los Angeles’ historic Mayfair Hotel will complete the first phase of its multimillion-dollar redesign at the hand of locally based Gulla Jonsdottir Architecture & Design, unveiling 277 new guestrooms and 12 junior suites. The next two phases are slated to be wrapped by early next year.
The upgrade is defined by modern amenities and décor, restoring the site of the very first Academy Awards afterparty to its Hollywood glamour. Borrowing historic cues while keeping an eye toward the future, Jonsdottir channels the hotel’s Jazz Age heritage, incorporating details such as antique-style maps into guestrooms as well as raw materials and accents like industrial metal fixtures.
The hotel’s art program is a distinctive characteristic in its revitalization. Highlighting an array of mediums, every floor will exhibit work from a different local artist.
