Singapore-based design studio LTW has unveiled its design of the Grand Hyatt Sanya Haitang Bay Resort and Spa, the hotel group’s first beach resort in China. Spanning more than 2 million square feet, the resort revels in panoramic views of the South China Sea and white sand beaches. LTW has captured the region’s fishing village heritage and different cultures in its design of the hotel’s public spaces, guestrooms and suites, spa, and all-day dining restaurant.
The resort’s architecture mirrors the traditional rectangular form of Chinese lanterns. Guests are welcomed into a circular lobby, outfitted with large columns and a domed ceiling, featuring the property’s signature warm color palette. Nearly 50-foot-tall glass walls frame lush greenery including a vertical garden, while woven baskets—inspired by native tradition—dangle from the ceiling. The practice is also highlighted through a feature wall of woven patterns that partitions the lobby, complementing marble, mosaics, and modern furnishings.
Guestrooms and suites continue the fishing village theme, reinforcing the setting with picturesque views of the sea, garden, and mountains. Raw textured materials and a natural palette contrast sleek silhouettes and the traditional local craftsmanship demonstrated via bespoke wallcoverings and artwork.
The property’s Huan Spa, set within a 172,200-square-foot spa village and gardens, also features natural materials such as colorful fresh flower installations, tying it to the outdoor environment. The rustic, beach house-style Grand Café embodies the tropical setting with blue and yellow tones, while its stone floor patterned with timber circles represents rippling water to further establish a sense of place. Included among seven onsite event spaces is the 9,687-square-foot grand ballroom, which boasts 23-foot ceilings, large French doors, and an outdoor garden.
