The Hotel Nikko San Francisco will close its doors later this month through March 2017 to undergo a $60 million upgrade from HBA in time for its 30th anniversary. The overhaul will cover 405 guestrooms, seismic enhancements, and revamped public spaces including the lobby and event spaces. HBA will preserve the property’s existing Asian-inspired aesthetic—a nod to its Japanese heritage—by introducing a contemporary and sophisticated design largely influenced by the fluid lines of traditional kimonos.
Residential-style guestrooms will be flooded with natural light and rich textures. A cool, understated palette will be accented with splashes of vibrant color, while living areas will be outfitted with deep sofas, soft fabrics, and organic light fixtures. Marble bathrooms will include soaking tubs and oversized showers.
The pre-function area will be accented with textural lighting details and boldly colored, water-inspired carpeting further brightened by ample natural light. Artistic, airy light fixtures mirror the geometry of overlapping branches and tie the room’s nature-inspired elements to tailored designs. Organic sculptural light fixtures will serve as the focal point of the dramatic ballroom. Emphasizing the room’s height and grandeur, wall screens provide a contemporary accent, while smaller beaded details will infuse the walls with shimmering texture. Conveying a fluid design language, the ballroom’s carpeting draws from the patterns and tones of the hotel’s surrounding public spaces.
The reopening includes the return of the California-inspired Japanese concept Restaurant ANZU and other amenities such as the 10,000-square-foot Club Nikko fitness center and Feinstein’s at the Nikko nightclub.
