New York’s forthcoming Hip Hop Hall of Fame (HHHOF) has unveiled new design plans for the proposed venue, which will be home to a museum, luxury hotel, arcade, retail, bar and restaurant, TV studios, and a concert lounge. Not to be confused with the city’s also-in-the-works Universal Hip Hop Museum, the HHHOF is the brainchild of J.T. Thompson, the first producer of BET’s Hip Hop Hall of Fame Awards Induction Ceremony & Concert. Thompson is modeling the project after Cleveland’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum.
“We are pleased that the Hip Hop Hall of Fame museum and hotel building project is moving forward and that it will have a major socioeconomic impact on tourism, culture, education, live events, film and television production and broadcasting, and job creation in New York City,” Thompson says.
The complex aims to serve up to one million annual visitors and host more than 150 live events for all ages. Two undisclosed Manhattan sites are being considered for the mixed-use complex. The development team estimates site acquisition to take place next year with a slated opening of 2019 or 2020.
