On the heels of the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort’s debut in northern Oman, Anantara has announced the opening of the Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara in the country’s southern province of Dhofar. Crafted by Australian studio PSI Design in close collaboration with property developer Musstir, the property reflects traditional regional design principles with contemporary elements on the banks of the Arabian Sea and nearby freshwater lagoon.
The design draws inspiration from the structure of historic villages, with the whitewashed main building housing the reception and lobby, Sakalan restaurant and 30 guestrooms residing behind Omani carved wooden doors. Complementing the natural landscape, entryway arches embrace the beauty of Islamic architecture with their branch-like curvature. The influence appears throughout the property, including the Moroccan-inspired spa to honor the hammam and rasul mud treatment rooms—the first of their kind in Oman.
Shrouded beneath 750 coconut palm trees, 88 one- and two-bedroom pool villas are outfitted with traditional flat roofs and intimate courtyards. The three-bedroom Royal Beach Villa revels in both ocean and lagoon views.
Traditional details span the interiors, including communal seating areas dressed in bright kilim fabrics and soft cushioning. Recessed walls are adorned with locally sourced antiques and artwork, while pervasive lanterns instill a sense of tranquility. Black-stone water features reflect the design’s defining symmetry and mirror the ancient falaj irrigation system running through focal points like the ocean and lagoon.
