As part of its ongoing renovation, the historic Los Angeles Athletic Club (LAAC) has partnered with British designer Timothy Oulton to redesign its well-known Blue Room, originally completed in 1912.
Located on the fourth floor, the room’s renovation revealed a forgotten staircase on the same floor, ascending from the third-floor Invention bar, that dates back to the 1920s when the passage was used during prohibition. In reference to its historic purpose, the passage will be reopened as a hidden entrance behind a bookcase.
Along with crystal chandeliers, vintage sporting equipment, authentic LAAC athletic photos, and antique lockers, the Blue Room incorporates Timothy Oulton furniture inspired by the brand’s cigar and sports club themes. A sleek cocktail bar will serve as the centerpiece.
Locally based SRK Architects is also redesigning the LAAC’s fifth and sixth floor athletic facilities, which will include men’s NBA-style pro lockers, women’s locker rooms, a spa, basketball and volleyball courts, a retail corridor, and F&B outlets.

A grand staircase will connect the fifth floor reception and the sixth floor spa lobby, which will also include a barbershop, nail salon, and swimming pool.
