In collaboration with Hong Kong-based Leigh & Orange architects, Hollywood-based Gary Goddard Entertainment + Design (GGE), which specializes in designing integrated resorts and destination theme parks, has completed Studio City—a $3.2 billion casino and resort on Macau’s iconic Cotai Strip.
The approximately more than 6-million-square-foot Hollywood-inspired Studio City features two statues, which flank the entrance, and two rooftop statues that are all clad in stainless steel to complement the curtain-wall façade’s reflective fenestration.
The 35-story, two-tower resort’s focal point is the figure-eight shaped Golden Reel, a 426-foot tall Ferris wheel that is shaped like the No. 8, a good luck symbol in China. It is the first Ferris wheel that has ever been integrated into a building’s exterior, as well as the first to be constructed in that shape.
Amenities include the COSMOS fast-food dining area, a pool deck, lazy river recreation area, a tree-house attraction, and a retail promenade inspired by New York, Hollywood, and Beverly Hills.
