The latest Lodging Econometrics United States Construction Trend Report shows that the U.S. wrapped up the second quarter of 2016 with a hotel pipeline of 4,633 projects and 569,848 rooms, indicating the 15th consecutive quarter of growth. The second-quarter numbers show a 15 percent spike in projects and a 12 percent increase for rooms year-over-year.
The U.S. currently has 1,381 projects—a 21 percent increase from last quarter—and 184,167 rooms under construction, while 2,198 projects and 249,103 rooms account for projects scheduled to start in the next 12 months, and 1,054 projects and 136,578 rooms in early planning stages. The report indicates that the most recent quarter was the third consecutive where both projects and room count in early planning dropped.
