Lodging Econometrics reports that, excluding China, the top four cities boasting the largest hotel construction pipelines in Asia Pacific are Seoul, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, and Tokyo. The only of the four markets to increase year-over-year with 22 new projects—a 16-percent gain—Seoul has a pipeline of 159 projects and 31,233 guestrooms. Jakarta’s includes 118 projects and 20,885 guestrooms, while Kuala Lumpur’s comprises 47 projects and 11,484 guestrooms, and Tokyo shows 49 projects with 10,941 guestrooms.
Again excluding Chinese development projects, the leading franchise companies in Asia’s hotel construction pipeline are Marriott International with 236 projects and 54,328 guestrooms; InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) with 117 projects and 26,664 guestrooms; Best Western with 62 projects and 13,066 guestrooms; and Hilton Worldwide with 59 projects and 12,495 guestrooms.
Leading brands for the top three franchises are Courtyard by Marriott with 30 projects and 6,438 guestrooms; IHG’s Holiday Inn with 43 projects and 10,819 guestrooms; Best Western with 26 projects and 3,158 guestrooms; and Hilton Hotels with 21 projects and 5,088 guestrooms.
