The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has named the honorees of its 11th Annual Student Design Competition. Sponsored by OFS Brands, this year’s challenge asked participants to envision a mixed-use building for an urban university.
The first prize of $2,500 went to California College of the Arts students Seoyoun Yun and Nayeong (Chloe) Oh for their project City Within City. Second place, $1,500, was awarded to Hyung Kim from the University of Georgia for the project, Terminal. And a team from Virginia Commonwealth University that included Kaltham Alkuwari, Fessal Eleglah, Mariam AlKhamis, Majdulin Nasr Allah, and Sahar Ansari took home third place for its entry, Social Steps, winning $750. Wining projects can be viewed on IIDA’s website.
“Students are uniquely positioned to rethink how educational institutions are designed, and this year’s Student Design Competition gave us the opportunity to see how the future of our industry will approach big challenges with big ideas,” says IIDA executive vice president and CEO Cheryl S. Durst.
This year’s panel of judges featured Nick Blessinger, director of marketing and education for OFS Brands; Jacobs’ design principal James Kerrigan; Krystal R. Lucero, senior interior designer for Edwards + Mulhausen Interior Design; and Robyn Taylor, director of design for Westgroup Designs.
