Hotel Indigo San Diego has opened as the brand's first LEED certified property. Owned and managed by IHG, the 12-story, 210-room hotel was designed by locally based Joseph Wong of Joseph Wong Design Associates and features a variety of green initiatives. Green roofs on the ninth and 12th floors, orchestrated by hometown firm Teshima Design Group, are designed to cut energy consumption by reducing the need for heating and air conditioning. The Phi Terrace Bar and meditation deck represents the first installation of MoistureShield composite decking, made from recycled polyethylene plastic and recycled wood fibers. Other eco-friendly elements include a terrace herb garden, operable floor-to-ceiling windows for natural lighting and ventilation, an on-site recycling program, composting of organic matter, and reserved parking spaces and parking discounts for guests with fuel-efficient vehicles.
The hotel, featuring the interior design work of Atlanta-based Design Directions International (DDI), also showcases local artwork, including a 40-foot glass sculpture by Lisa Schirmer called Indigo Waters on the property's western facade. A water curtain by Bluworld, meanwhile, adorns the lobby. The Fibonacci sequence, a universal design constant found throughout nature, art, and architecture, informs Hotel Indigo San Diego's overall interior design. In addition, the hotel offers a business center, meeting space, fitness studio, Phi Bar and Bistro, Phi Terrace Bar, a reflection pool, and firepits.
