Swisstouches Hotel - Xian, China
May 16, 2012
HBA recently completed the Swisstouches Hotel in Xi’an, China, an ancient inland Chinese city with a history stretching back more than 3,000 years. To begin the design process, HBA traveled to Switzerland to research and learn Swiss contemporary design elements. The firm’s design incorporates modern architectural elements, furnishings, and materials for a chic and luxurious environment. “What worked incredibly well for the property’s design was the ability to merge art and interior design as one,” notes HBA’s David T’Kint.

Paper Trail
Feb 15, 2012
In today’s cluttered digital era, Luke Ives Pontifell, founder of Thornwillow Press, wants to remind readers that paper is the original media. “A book is an object that stands between the writer and the reader. The smell of ink, the touch of typography, and leather binding can make it a finer experience,” he shares.
Twenty-seven years ago, a teenage Pontifell printed and bound a children’s book, planting the seeds for what would become limited edition publishing house Thornwillow Press. Beyond the handmade books, artisans at the bindery, in Newburgh, New York, also craft bespoke stationery and invitations. Guests and visitors of the St. Regis in New York City have been treated to the hotel’s “invisible store” of quality paper goods, and now, pegged to its 85th anniversary, the St. Regis Washington, DC has just unveiled its own shrine to the custom bookbinder in the lobby.
