Shore Hotel

Santa Monica’s first LEED property, family-run Shore Hotel, has opened on the oceanfront. The 164-room boutique hotel, designed by the Los Angeles office of Gensler, boasts an energy-saving Auto Demand Response System, roof mounted solar panels, and glass walls offering ocean views.

Product Runway

On November 14th, 16 of the industry’s top design firms took on the ultimate design challenge—Product Runway—a showcase of couture creations to raise funds for scholarships through NEWH Greater New York. The challenge: three months, $500, and $500 of select material from a sponsoring manufacturer, ranging from stone and tile to carpet and wallcovering. Project Runway alums—Kevin Christiana (Season 4), Suede (Season 5), and Joshua McKinley (Season 9)—judged the impressive designs runway-style at Marquee nightclub, where more than 400 industry professionals gathered to see the looks firsthand. And the winners are: ICRAVE and Swarovski (grand prize); B.R. Guest Hospitality and Artistic Tile (first runner-up); and Gensler and Palecek (second runner-up). ICRAVE receives a $1,000 scholarship to be donated to the school of their choice and can exhibit the winning design at the NEWH Greater New York Regional Tradeshow in June 2012.
