On June 4th, around 250 industry members gathered at the Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City to honor the finalists and winners of Hospitality Design (HD) magazine's fifth annual HD Awards. Finalists and winners from the 398 submissions in categories ranging from luxury hotel to resort to spa were announced prior to the event. But the much coveted Best of Show was announced at the end of the awards ceremony and went to Clodagh Design, MITHUN, and Miraval Holding, LLC for Miraval, a resort in Tucson, Arizona, which had taken home top honors in the luxury guestrooms/suites category.
The evening—sponsored by Mark David and Interiors From Spain, and awards created and provided by UltraGlas—included an awards presentation set in the Hudson Theatre followed by a night of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and networking. The after party sponsored by Hampshire/Vikram Chatwal Hotels, Alcatel-Lucent, Aspen Social Club, and Stonehill & Taylor Architects and Planners was held at Aspen Social Club in the new Stay hotel.
This year, the awards competition included some new categories including honors for luxury and mid-range guestrooms/suites and public spaces. Entries were judged by Peggy Leung, Studio Gaia; Matt Harvey, Joie de Vivre Hospitality; Ali Honarkar, Division1 Architects; Russell Groves, S. Russell Groves; and D.B. Kim, D.B. Kim Design. All of the winners and finalists are featured in the May/June issue of Hospitality Design.
