Eye Candy

July 1, 2009

suite me fish
If the new SuiteME at ME Cancun looks suited for TV, there's a good reason for it. The cast of The Real World Cancun were the first guests to stay in the mega two-level suite, now available for bookings. At 9,757 square feet, the sprawling accommodations—courtesy of designer Chuck Aubrey—offer bursts of bright color with hints of voyeurism designed for the suite's original occupants. The top-level expansive foyer greets guests with a spherical aquarium populated with saltwater fish, while yellow cushions brighten up a seating area. A fully stocked bar, purple felt pool table, a media center known as "The Playroom," and a deck add distinction to the second floor.

suite me living room
An outdoor spiral staircase leads to a second balcony and into the main living area, whose highlight is a coffee table featuring built-in sandboxes. The walls gradate from red to orange to yellow, mimicking Cancun's legendary sunsets. The open, airy space transitions to a fully equipped kitchen that offers unobstructed views of the ocean and incorporates custom details such as an oversized mosaic countertop.

suite me showers
The heart of the suite features exposed spaces for which The Real World is known. Strategically placed clouded glass surrounds the two shower stalls, each equipped with two rain showerheads. The space is also home to a 10-person hot tub, lined with a mosaic tile of blue, bronze, and gold—and viewable from the foyer above. The reality show's infamous Phone Room is another space on display, featuring an all-glass enclosure, old-style phone, canopy bed, and an indoor garden of local flora. For those needing a bit more privacy, four guestrooms offer showers and personal vanity areas away from the open. Artwork plays an important role in the design, with pieces such as sculptor Yuri Zatarain's Birdcage and Stone Parrot.
