You've seen some new products from Italy and Spain in the September 2009 issue of Hospitality Design (HD) magazine. Now check out great catches from Norway and Japan.
Norway
Fora Form, a Scandinavian supplier of chairs and tables, showcases the Copenhagen chair (left). Designed by Lars Tornoe, the chair's back and seat are made of three-dimensional veneer, creating a flowing body.
Inspired by a peeled orange, Olav Eldoy designed the Peel Club (right) chair for Variér, a Norwegian furniture company. The chair is meant to have the same function as an orange peel—to protect the person sitting in it by embracing it.
The Scandia Chair from fjordfiesta was originally designed as a student project created by Hans Brattrud in 1957. Today, the company has expanded the line to include four designs—the easy chair senior (left); the Nett Lounge Chair, the dining room chair junior, and the Nett Swivel Chair.
Japan
Stylish design takes cues from traditional Japanese dressers with Sunnin's Tokyo Dress (left). The cascading body saves space and is made of oak.
The Mangrove Chair from Teko Design Co. (right) has a design reminiscent of the roots of a mangrove tree. The uniquely shaped chair is made for both the indoors and outdoors.
Toto's new Neorest 600 (left) is full of innovation with an automatic lid (it opens as you approach it) and an automatic flush (flushes when you walk away). A warming system also heats up the seat and to be healthy and clean, a SanaGloss glaze is found on the seat.
