Philadelphia design firm Floss Barber was tasked with injecting Emeril Lagasse's personality and style into his first restaurant in the Northeast, Emeril's Chop House at Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem in Pennsylvania. The design team knew they had to meet guests' expectations of how an American steakhouse should look and feel while still providing a fresh approach specific to Emeril's unique specifications for his first Chop House. Floss Barber took on the challenge by using traditional millwork, metal finishes, and leather and upholstered elements in unexpected ways.
The chef's food bar presents guests with a front row seat to all the action in the open kitchen. Freestanding design elements create interesting views between all areas of the dining floor and the nearby casino. An intimate dining area is carved out in the center of the space between two translucent curved wine cellars and can be easily screened from the main dining space with luxurious drapery for private functions.
The designers emphasized scale through the use of several free standing design elements, transparent glazing, mirrors, and reflective glass surfaces that create interesting views and enliven the restaurant floor. In addition, an original design polished stainless sculpture was suspended over the main dining area to further emphasize the allusion of reflection and transparency.
