Sugar Ridge on Track for December Debut

Oct 21, 2009

Designed by architectural and design firm OBM International (OBMI) with interiors by Charmaine Benjamin-Werth of d Studio, the 60-room Sugar Ridge boutique hotel is set to open on December 1st on the island of Antigua. The four-year, $30 million project has resulted in a property designed for peaceful seclusion.

A natural hillside bordered with sugar cane is the namesake location of Sugar Ridge, surrounded by colorful, indigenous flora and fauna. The resort's elevation provides vistas to the north of rolling landscape dotted with picturesque villages; to the east rests the forested terrain of Antigua's dramatic coastal highlands.

In the guestrooms, large windows and doors offer seamless indoor-outdoor living, thanks to outdoor lounging areas with private decks, and views of the Caribbean Sea or the lust foothills of the island. The rooms are bathed in an earth tone palette of cream, soft white hues, and warm beige tones, accented by strong feature colors and dark woods. The interior design melds a fusion of modern contemporary style with the rich history of the region. Stone tiles, hardwood detailing, and mixed wood shingle and metal clad roofs complement simple render finished structures.

Sugar Ridge has several F&B concepts: Sugar Club, the hotel's main dining facility and social epicenter, as well as Carmichael's restaurant and bar and the Sugar Club Bar. Additional amenities include a 6,000-square-foot Aveda spa, fitness center with exercise studio, and two swimming pools.
