Park Hyatt enters China this summer with hotels in Beijing and Shanghai. The hotels are situated within the tallest buildings of their respective cities.
John Portman, who designed the original Hyatt hotel in Atlanta, implemented in Park Hyatt Beijing's lobby a soaring ceiling meant to resemble a Chinese palace lantern. Remedios Siembieda and SuperPotato designed the hotel's 237 guestrooms. The hotel also houses the Pian Spa on the 59th and 60th floors, along with the China Grill on floors 63 through 66. Park Hyatt Beijing opens this month.
Park Hyatt Shanghai, meanwhile, occupies the 101-story Shanghai World Financial Center. New York City-based Tony Chi designed the 174-room hotel that models ancient Chinese beliefs. For instance, weaving hallways, meant to block off evil spirts, lead into large shared spaces. The hotel's Water’s Edge spa is situated on the 85th floor, while the restaurants and bar are two floors above. The Shanghai property debuts in September.
