ASID Los Angeles is hosting "The Coming Out Party '09," an event on August 13 that welcomes emerging commercial designers into the professional design community. The party's concept, "Lead the Revolution," recognizes revolutionaries whose approach to design incorporates social responsibility. A video will feature William McDonough, who created the cradle-to-cradle movement, along with Ray Anderson, CEO of Interface; David Hertz, principal of David Hertz Architects and Studio of Environmental Architecture; John Cary of nonprofit Public Architecture; and Kristin King and Karen Hickey, ASID/LA president and director of Nest Feathers/Los Angeles Women's Shelter, respectively.
The get-together will comprise three separate events in Santa Monica: "Educate" at Allsteel Resource Center, and "Celebrate" and "VIP Reception" at Haworth Showroom. Guests will also receive a survival kit, which serves as a resource for emerging commercial interior designers intended to help prepare them for the transition from student to professional or from one firm or area of specialization to another.
