Walt Disney Co. is working on a Hawaiian resort, new cruise ships and sailings, private island expansion, and hotel upgrades at Disneyland and Disney World, among other news it announced at the Motivation Show last week.
Disney's Hawaii Resort. Construction is well underway on Disney's new Hawaii resort, which will open in 2011 on the island of Oahu. Designed with incentives and meetings in mind, it will feature 1,066 guest rooms, suites, and villas; a full-service spa; and extensive recreation amenities. The resort will also feature 63,000 square feet of ballroom/meeting space and event lawns, including a state-of-the-art conference center.
New Disney Cruise Line itineraries. In 2011, the Disney Wonder will inaugurate a series of seven-night sailings from the Port of Los Angeles to the frontiers of Alaska. The Disney Magic will return to Europe for a series of 10- and 11-night Mediterranean cruises. And Disney Cruise Line will welcome its newest ship, the Disney Dream, which will sail from Port Canaveral, Florida, to the Bahamas and Disney's private island, Castaway Cay.
Castaway Cay expansion. In preparation for the arrival of the new Disney Dream cruise ship in 2011 and the Disney Fantasy in 2012, Disney Cruise Line is expanding Castaway Cay. Enhancements will include new private beach cabanas that offer luxurious amenities and optional services of a cabana host. Also new will be Pelican Plunge, a floating water play area, and other expanded recreation and dining areas.
Grand Californian Hotel expansion opens. The flagship hotel of the Disneyland resort in Anaheim has opened a new wing that includes 200 additional guest rooms and 50 two-bedroom villas. The addition gives the hotel a total of 948 rooms, villas, and suites. Other elements of the expansion include a new swimming pool, a 300-space underground parking garage, and lounge areas and terraces that are ideal for networking events. The addition offers convenient access to the hotel's 20,000-square-foot convention center.
New tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort. A new 15-story tower opened August 4th at Disney's Contemporary Resort. Containing 295 two-bedroom villas, the tower gives the Contemporary a total of 951 rooms, suites, and villas. The expansion also caps off a three-year transformation of the resort, which includes completely redesigned common areas and guest rooms, a new entrance and lobby, and the addition of two new restaurants and a second pool complex. The Contemporary Resort has been a Florida landmark since it opened and is home to a 115,000-square-foot convention center.
New guestrooms and club level at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. The largest and most affordable of the six dedicated convention resorts at Walt Disney World Resort has "reimagined" its 1,921 guest rooms and introduced a new business club lounge. Redesigned guest rooms offer the latest business-friendly amenities and a casual but sophisticated decor. Business club rooms include upgraded amenities and club lounge access.
