Ritz-Carlton has announced plans to open its first LEED-certified hotel. The 147-room Ritz-Carlton, Charlotte Hotel, located at the Bank of America Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, is slated to open in October with design and services that will meet LEED requirements for sustainable and energy-efficient buildings.
Among the green design elements are an air transfer system that allows for the circulation of large amounts of outside air into the rooms and suites, a reflective roof vegetated with living plants, and use of the Natura Water Purification System as an alternative to bottled water. The hotel will offer complimentary hybrid-vehicle transportation to guests and storage spaces for guest bicycles will be provided to encourage their use throughout the city. Some hotel staff will even wear uniforms made of fabric created from recycled plastic bottles.
In addition to being the first Ritz-Carlton hotel to receive LEED certification, the Ritz-Carlton Charlotte is also the first building in the city of Charlotte to be certified. For meetings and events, the hotel offers more than 12,000 square-feet of meeting space, which will include environmentally-friendly furniture and supplies such as recycled aluminum meeting room tables and recycled leather furniture.
