Hotel Arista near Chicago has earned LEED certification, the first hotel in the state of Illinois to do so. The property, which opened last September, implemented eco-friendly features from the start. During construction, the hotel's ownership committed to recycling 70 percent of construction waste. The hotel also uses 30 percent less water and 21 percent less energy than comparable hotels. Abundant natural light contributes to less use of artificial light, while chemical-free cleaning products further contribute to the hotel's green policies. Signature restaurant SugarToad uses many organic and locally sourced products, in addition to an on-site garden.
