Following a $50 million revamp, the Hilton Paris Opera reopened this year with interiors by London-based Richmond International, who reinterpreted the landmark 1889 building’s storied past.
Formerly known as Concorde Paris Opera, the 268-room property—located within the Right Bank’s Opera district near the Champs-Elysées—was conceived by architect Juste Lisch to accommodate visitors to the 1889 Exposition Universelle.

The project restored many of the hotel’s original features, and added modern accents and architectural features, such as in the Grand Salon where a backlit skylight was installed to simulate natural light. “We also stripped back the paint to reveal the original terracotta and dark beige color palette—a foundation for the entire scheme,” says Fiona Thompson, principal of Richmond International.

Accommodations are “anchored by a Parisian mural that extends across the same wall as the headboard, which gives them a witty sense of place,” explains Thompson. “Reinstating classical moldings also adds to the building’s sense of history.”
